Traps - Istanbul

It is a deep interest in matter and a semiscientific curiosity for the recomposition of the rays of light that led me to the use of pinhole cameras.
For this project I’ve built cameras with objects I found in the street of Istanbul : from beer cans to shoe boxes. I would then place this “traps” of light around different districts of Istanbul leaving them for the time required for the right exposure of the negative with an audio recorder attached to the camera as to report the sound of what happened around the camera during the long exposures.
It was a way of exploring the city as well to document urban life through its own objects and light without being present in the act of photography. A sort of primordial spy camera to capture life. I’ve collected Turkish archive images and text and made a handmade book as a personal documentation of the city, coming where the eye does not reach.
